Be sure to go through every term and condition carefully before renting the car online. Also be sure of the restrictions that the rental car company is imposing on using their car. One important factor that influences your rental car charges is how long you are going to rent the car. If you are going to rent the car for less than a week, then it is a good idea to rent the car from a major car rental company such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National or Thrifty etc. On the other hand, if you are going to rent the car for a longer stretch of time, it may be a good idea to approach a smaller scale car rental agency, as they may be more willing to offer a more competitive rate than their bigger competitors. Auto dealers particularly offer good rates in these situations.
On the other hand, though you may have gotten a better discount from smaller rental car services, do not expect the same level of service and support offered by the major agencies as their nationwide support service is generally not as good. So if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, it is up to you to arrange for towing and repair. So be aware that if you want to save on your rental fee you have to take this risk.
