Dollar Rent A Car is based in the Unites States. In nineteen sixty-five the company was founded in Los Angeles, California. Chrysler acquired the company in nineteen ninety where it was combined with Thrifty Rent A Car, Snappy Rent A Car, Eurodollar and General Rent A Car. The company was combined into the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group in nineteen ninety-seven and to this date, they still own both Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Rent A Car. Snappy Rent A Car and General Rent A Car were sold or shut down in nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-four.
The company has over six hundred locations throughout the world, mostly franchised. Some locations are owned through the company directly. The company primarily rents Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles even though some of the franchise businesses feature more widely known brands such as Mazda, Nissan and Toyota.
